What's Happening to U.S. Families?
In the last 25 years, the real wages of low income workers have fallen while those of the wealthiest have increased. Across the nation, the average savings rate is less than 0%; as Americans, we are actually spending more than we are making. Not only are interest rates on credit cards rising steadily, but credit card companies and banks are slapping customers with new and often wildly high fees for basic banking services.

While many of these costs are stretching the incomes of citizens from all financial backgrounds, those with low incomes struggle the most. Studies show that people who live in low income neighborhoods pay more for almost everything, from groceries to home loans to car insurance, than their wealthier counterparts.
